LinkLiving’s award-winning peer education and employability project has a new home in Falkirk.

SmartLiving Falkirk is now based at Link’s sheltered housing development at Castings House, where it will be able to continue to grow and develop its services.

The project has grown considerably since it was launched in 2006, it now has six volunteer workers and has worked with over 160 young volunteers.

SmartLiving runs courses to give young people (between 16 and 25) practical employability skills through volunteering. On completion of its 12 week programme the young people who take part can go on to provide peer education sessions or take on other volunteering opportunities provided through SmartLiving.

Young people who volunteer with SmartLiving benefit from one-to-one practical and emotional support and access to accredited training. The new skills they develop and the experience they gain through volunteering is crucial in today’s job market.  SmartLiving has an excellent track record of supporting young people to take the next step towards a job. In 2012, 13 young people gained employment whilst 21 young people continued with volunteering or pursued further training.

SmartLiving Project Co-ordinator, Irene Blackburn said:

“We are really excited to have this new base and are looking forward to providing more training and support for our volunteers."

SmartLiving is run by LinkLiving (part of the Link Group) and operates in Falkirk and Fife with funding from the Scottish Government’s People & Communities fund, Falkirk Council and Young Start.
