SmartLiving is our award-winning project which helps young people aged 16 – 25 improve their employability skills.

SmartLiving We provide one-to-one practical and emotional support along with access to accredited training. SmartLiving has an excellent track record of supporting young people to take the next step towards securing a job.

We work in partnership with other agencies such as youth groups, mainstream education, careers services, employability services, Job Centres, and other voluntary organisations. It is through these partnerships that we can engage with young people who may benefit from getting involved with SmartLiving.

SmartLiving comprises two programmes: Step On and Step Up.

Step On is for young people based in Edinburgh, Falkirk and Fife.  The programme helps young people to identify their goals and aspirations for the future and supports them to achieve these by accessing relevant training, volunteering opportunities, future education or Employment.

We support the young people to identify projects they are interested in and work with them to develop their ideas.   We have helped facilitate a variety of projects from developing and filming short movies, running social media campaigns,  to creating and developing phone apps.

In giving up their time, the young people can be part of a project that will help them improve their self-belief and confidence whilst gaining a qualification and a Saltire Award.

Step On also runs a Peer Education Project where young people who have experience in homelessness or independent living at a young age are trained as Peer Educators. They then deliver sessions to high school pupils raising awareness of homelessness and the challenges young people can face securing and managing their own tenancies.
